Sabo & Cassady "Esa Loca Cumbia" in Rolling Stone Magazine June 2010

Sabo & Cassady's "Esa Loca Cumbia" track which came out on Bersa Discos # 6, was mentioned in the June issue of Rolling Stone Magazine, in the article titled Fresh New Beats. The article talks about several new genres in Dance Music that are "taking over" and the blurb states: "A Pan-Amercian crew: Mexico's Toy Selectah, Argentina's Zizek camp, and New Yorks Sabo and Cassady whose "Esa Loca Cumbia" turns a 1940's cut into a global bass anthem." Sabo & Zeb - "Global Warmbeats" review in XLR8R December 2008

"In a rare case of the title fitting almost exactly what is inside, New York outernationalist stalwarts Zeb and DJ Sabo bring the worldwide funk to the table in a big way. If past releases prove prophetic, this will be on the decks for years to come. These cats know how to lay it down." - Toph One's Lucky 13 column in XLR8R

MIXTAPE REVIEW

DJ Sabo | Soulproof v2.0 | mixtape/2005
Author: Beau Lamontagne

RE-UP Wowee zowee - a downtempo mix done in a traditional hip-hop mixtape style? Rather than simple blends and segues, DJ Sabo earns his keep of this collection of downbeatempo rockers. You may recognize the name Sabo from his East Village radio show or the dubalicious collaborations with Zeb the Pleb via Wonderwheel Recordings. Mixtapes are all about flexing your own technical skills as well as the interpretation (or declaration) of that particular style or genre. Sabo completely nails the "funky, not stinky" vibe of a mix that can be enjoyed by the sexy bellydancer, the hip-hop backpacker, as well as the wrinkly-shirt lounge fool. Whether it's mashing up DJ DSL's instrumental of Kool Keith's "Let Me Talk To You" over Beats International's "Just Be Good To Me," lacing the instrumental of Snoop's "Paped Up" with the best cut on the mix, the ultra-infectious "So Blue It's Black" (by the Underwolves), or doubling up the intro on The Doors' "Break On Through" with a Nas acapella over the top, Soulproof v2.0 is a blueprint for what a downbeatempo mix should be: manual remixes that naturally fuse two songs together, nimble cuts& scratches, an anticipatory flow, and timeless track selections. Any more mixes like this out there? PLEASE send them in. The bar has been set.
